IMSA ace Spinelli joins factory Lamborghini driver roster for 2024
Loris Spinelli, a 27-year-old Italian driver based in Florida, has been added to Lamborghini’s GT3 ranks, joining other accomplished drivers such as Sandy Mitchell, Marco Mapelli, and Franck Perera. Spinelli raced with Forte Racing’s US RaceTronics team last year in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, and his notable achievement was winning the GTD pro-am category at Petit Le Mans. He also secured pole position at Watkins Glen, beating all the professional drivers by four tenths of a second. Spinelli expressed his excitement and pride at being a part of Lamborghini Squadra Corse and is eager to get started in 2024. As a decorated karter in his youth, Spinelli transitioned to car racing in 2015 and won the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Pro championship in 2017. He has since achieved multiple victories and class titles in both the European and North American categories. Moreover, Spinelli dominated Super Trofeo Europe in 2022, clinching the title with a round to spare. He will continue to compete in IMSA’s premier series next season with Forte Racing. Lamborghini’s head of motorsport, Giorgio Sanna, praised Spinelli’s speed and success in both the Super Trofeo races and the GT3 category, highlighting the validity of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s young drivers program. Additionally, Spinelli emerged as the winner of the GT3 Junior driver shootout held at Vallelunga after the Lamborghini World Finals event.
